To assist international medical graduates (IMGs) to deal with documentary evidence obligations for multiple agencies, the AMC has streamlined its processes for handling and electronically capturing documents.
Once the AMC has assessed an application (with all required supporting documentation) as complete, it will retain an electronic copy of the documentation. It will then either return the documentation to the applicant or securely destroy it, depending on which option the applicant nominated in their application.
By improving administrative efficiency and reducing the need for IMGs to duplicate documentation for multiple agencies, this initiative addresses comments in Lost in the Labyrinth, the report by the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Health and Ageing on its inquiry into registration processes and support for overseas-trained doctors.
All IMGs who submitted applications from 1 January 2013 will be able to choose to have their documents returned or securely destroyed.
